California Solar Exit
Helping California homeowners find a way out.
About Daniel Merritt
Consumer Advocate & Lead Case Analyst — California Solar Exit
Daniel Merritt spent eight years on the inside of California's residential solar industry — first as a field sales representative covering the Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley, then as a regional sales manager overseeing a team of twenty-two reps across Southern California. He knows how the pitch is built. He knows what the projections leave out. And he knows exactly what a sales rep is trained to say when a homeowner asks whether the numbers are guaranteed.
"I watched good people sign contracts they didn't understand, for systems that didn't perform the way they were told. After a while I couldn't keep doing it. So I stopped."
In 2021, after leaving solar sales, Daniel began working directly with homeowners who were trapped in underperforming leases and loans — reviewing contracts, identifying misrepresentation, and coordinating with consumer protection attorneys to build cancellation cases. He has reviewed more than 600 solar contracts across California, covering leases and PPAs from Sunrun, SunPower, Sunnova, and Vivint Solar, as well as financed purchases through GreenSky, Mosaic, and GoodLeap.
California Solar Exit was built on the belief that homeowners deserve the same depth of knowledge about their solar contracts that the companies who sold those contracts have. Daniel leads every intake review personally and works alongside general counsel and a specialized consumer protection team to evaluate each case on its specific facts — not a template.
What sets this work apart
Most consumer advocacy in the solar space comes from law firms that picked up solar as a new practice area after 2022. Daniel's background is different — he understands the sales process from the inside, which means he knows what to look for in a contract, what verbal promises were likely made during the sale, and where the documentation trail typically breaks down. That industry knowledge is what makes the case reviews at California Solar Exit more thorough than a standard attorney intake.

DISCLOSURE: Daniel Merritt is not an attorney and does not provide legal advice. Cases involving potential legal action are referred to and handled by licensed California consumer protection attorneys working in coordination with California Solar Exit. Entering into a service agreement with California Solar Exit does not establish a direct attorney-client relationship.
